“Green Design” presented by Stan Sersen, Architects, Phase2Architecture (founder of the Green Building Institute)

Find out what is the difference between regular and “Green” design.   Green design is a holistic approach to creating a better built environment that complements and integrates with the natural environment.  Even in an urban setting, taking a more sustainable approach to design will yield more human friendly spaces that stimulate, not suppress, the human spirit while at the same time minimize, if not help regenerate, the ecosystem through proper material selection, energy reduction, and a “closed loop” negative impact approach.  We will help you understand the local, and global, impact you make in your daily decisions about your built environment and answer your questions from Annual rainfall to Zebra wood.

“Financing your Dream Green Home” presented by Sweth Chandramouli, Ethical Homes

Learn how to pay for your green home.  Whether you’re “greenovating” an existing property, building one from scratch, or purchasing one that already has green features, there is financing available and EthicalHomes will provide the road map for navigating your options. We’ll discuss the available types of financing, including home equity loans and lines of credit, Energy-Efficient Mortgages (EEMs), and renovation loans (including FHA 203K and Fannie Mae HomePath/HomeStyle programs). Finally, you’ll discover what is sustainable lending, including the Ethical Homes myEnergyLoan program to provide discounts for financing on green properties.

”Home Energy Audits” presented by Brian Uher, Amicus Consulting Services

The foundation of a successful retrofit is the right information. By your best options for home improvements, you can maximize your comfort and return on investment while reducing your the carbon footprint and maintenance costs.  The home energy audit, done properly, can identify effective short-term fixes and best long-term investments in your home.

We will review the components of an audit, what the results can tell you, what they cannot tell you, and how to get the best “bang for buck” when you move from information to execution.  Special emphasis will be placed on proper sequencing of improvements and contractor selection.
